Lufthansa to Employ Chinese Stewardesses

The Lufthansa German Airline has lately declared its plan to recruit Chinese stewardesses to provide passengers with Chinese language service on China-Germany air lines. The first flight carrying Chinese stewardesses, LH720, will arrive in Beijing on December 27, 2000.

The newly enrolled 60 Chinese stewardesses are now receiving a two-month comprehensive training at Frankfort and will then be given every month a German language course as follow-up. By next spring there will be 100 Chinese stewardesses serving on 23 flights between China and Germany every week.

We noticed that passengers are in increased numbers taking Lufthansa flights in recent years, so we decided to enroll Chinese stewardesses to serve Chinese passengers better, said Lufthansa's chief representative in China.

With its impending WTO membership China will surely become one of world's most vigorous markets, he said, adding that Lufthansa will continue efforts to promote business side by side with its Chinese counterparts.

Lufthansa is the first European air company to have reached flight code sharing agreement with Air China, according to which it will provide two Beijing-Frankfort flights daily and eight Shanghai-Frankfort flights weekly.
