HK to Strengthen Internet Domain Name Management
Sources from Hong Kong say that Hong Kong SAR will appropriate a fund of HK$3 million for founding a new Internet domain name institutional setup and put it in charge of Internet domain name management to speed up its Internet and E-business construction.
Deputy Secretary Alan Siu with the Information Technology and Broadcasting Bureau of Hong Kong SAR said December 11 that a provisional committee, with representatives from among universities, business circles, government institutions and Internet users, has been formed to see to it that the Joint Universities Computer Center's (JUCC) management over domain names with ". HK" as postfix notation be transferred to the non-profit and non-statutory institutional setup to be established.
Alan Siu said a serious of new measures conducive to Internet domain name management as allowing an establishment or institution to register under several domain names, domain names to be transferred under a reasonable situation, adding a second-level domain name after ". HK" and individuals to register by real name will be adopted to strengthen Internet domain name management after founding of the new domain name management institution in Hong Kong.
