Festival Greeting New Century to Be Held in East China

A festival marking the coming of a new century will be hosted from December 30 to January 2, 2001 at the Kuocang Mountain in Linhai in east China's Zhejiang Province.

Wang Guozhong, vice mayor of Linhai, said at a press conference on December 12 that the festival's them is: "Welcome New Century and Support Beijing's Olympic Bid."

It includes a variety of cultural and tourist activities such as ancient wall climbing, a fireworks gala, evening bonfire party, unveiling the dawn stele and dawn greeting gathering, Wang said.

The city government has spent 2.5 million yuan to build sighting equipment, improve boarding service and install communication facilities at the viewpoint on the mountain.

The sunlight will reach the 382.4 meter-high mountaintop which can accommodate thousands of sunrise watchers, at 6:43 a.m. on January 1, 2001.
