US Closes Embassy in Doha for Security Reasons

The United States has closed its embassy in Doha, Qatar, for security reasons, embassy spokeswoman Elita Wingrei said on Tuesday, December 12.

The embassy will "remain closed (at least) until the end of the week and we do not know if we will reopen it next week," Wingrei was quoted as saying by Kuwait News Agency.

Washington ordered the closure of a number of embassies and consulates in the Middle East, Africa and Asia last October, following a bomb attack against the USS Cole destroyer in Yemen's port of Aden, in which 17 U.S. sailors were killed and scores wounded.
