Canadian Countertenor Presents Recital in Beijing

World renowned Canadian countertenor Daniel Taylor presented his first recital in Beijing Monday evening, playing an epilogue in a series of cultural activities marking the 30th anniversary of Sino-Canadian diplomatic ties.

As an internationally famous countertenor, Taylor has performed throughout the world, from Montreal to Tokyo to London. His repertoire comprises of Renaissance and Baroque music.

Famous Peking opera singer Mei Baojiu, who plays a female role in a falsetto voice, made a special presence at Taylor's recital this evening, thus giving the audience an opportunity to enjoy two varieties of falsetto singing.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the forging of diplomatic ties between China and Canada, the Canadian Embassy in China has organized a variety of cultural events including a conference on Canadian studies, an essay-writing contest in Beijing and Ottawa high schools, a contemporary art exhibition, a Canadian contemporary film festival, and thirty performances of Canadian dramas.
