Kyrgyz Government ResignsThe Kyrgyz government led by Prime Minister Amangeldy Muraliyev handed its resignation to President Askar Akayev Monday, December 11, said reports from the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek.According to the Kyrgyz constitution, the cabinet resigns after a newly elected president is sworn in, the Kyrgyz government press service was quoted as saying. Akayev was re-elected as Kyrgyz president on October 29 and officially assumed his office on December 9. Akayev is expected to submit a new candidate for Prime Minister at a parliamentary session on Tuesday. Kyrgyz Presidential Press Secretary Osmonakun Ibraimov said earlier that some changes would be made in the government, but the current Prime Minister Muraliyev was most likely to retain his post. The president "is ready to make cardinal decisions" to change the structure of the government and its staff, as only the cabinet ministers "who really work would remain," he said. |
