Song Defu Named Party Chief of Fujian Province

Song Defu, China's Minister of Personnel, has replaced Chen Mingyi as secretary of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) of eastern Fujian Province, as decided by the CPC Central Committee.

Song Defu, 54, is a native of Yanshan, in north China's Hebei Province.

At the age of 19, Song joined the Air Force of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA).

In 1985, Song replaced Hu Jintao as first secretary of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) Central Committee.

Since 1993, Song has been minister of Personnel. He is concurrently head of State Council work Group for Employment of Demobilized PLA Officers and a deputy secretary of the Work Committee of Large Enterprises of the CPC Central Committee.

He is also a member of the CPC Central Committee and member of the Standing Committee of the 9th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
