"One Country, Two Systems" Well Implemented in Macao: FM SpokeswomanChina's policy of "one country, two systems" has been fully implemented and has achieved positive results in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) since China resumed its sovereignty over Macao a year ago.Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue made the remark at Tuesday's press conference when asked to comment on Macao's situation in the past year. The government of the Macao SAR, led by chief executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah, has taken measures to develop the SAR's economy, effect social stability and solve all problems concerning the life of the people, Zhang said. These efforts have created a good starting point for the SAR's future development, she said. "Presently, Macao has achieved social stability and established a sound legal system," she added. The rights and lifestyles of the residents in the SAR are guaranteed, Zhang said, adding that public security in the region is also improving. Macao's economy is also bidding farewell to recession and has begun to show signs of recovery, she said, quoting that the SAR's economy is predicted to gain a 4 percent growth this year, believed to be the first increase in four years. Meanwhile, the SAR government has created a new image of Macao in the international arena by making the SAR known to the outside world, Zhang said. She concluded that the Chinese government has strictly abided by the Basic Law, respected the autonomy of the SAR's government and rendered full support to its work. She confirms that the Chinese government will continue to implement the policy of "one country, two systems", grant full autonomy to Macao and ensure that the capitalist system and ways of life in Macao will remain unchanged for 50 years.
