Central Govt. Favors Macao-Taiwan Contacts: Chinese OfficialThe Chinese government encourages non-governmental contacts between Macao and Taiwan and expects Macao to play an exemplary role in promoting the complete reunification of the motherland, a Chinese official in Macao said Tuesday, December 12."Now that Macao has returned to the motherland and the 'one country, two systems' principle is carried out well, Macao can set a good example for the peaceful reunification," said Wang Qiren, director of the Liaison Office of central people's government in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR). Wang said the central government encourages the exchanges between the Macao SAR and Taiwan in economic, cultural, scientific and sports fields. "The non-governmental contacts between Macao and Taiwan are favorable to resolving the Taiwan question," he said. Following Hong Kong's return to the motherland, Macao's return is another important move to achieve the complete reunification, the Chinese official said. "The 'one country, two systems' principle has proved to be the most effective approach to the reunification," Wang Qiren said.
