Sail Comes out of Production Line

Sail, a new kind of economic-sedan introduced by Shanghai GM, is announced to be thrown from production line, which was caught great attention before and titled "small Buick" by media.

Sail SL, the basic model of the Sail family, is priced at about 100,000 yuan (US$12,000). And the price of Sail SLXAT, with the best configuration, is said to be below 125,000 yuan (US$15,000). The Sail series presents a big challenge for domestic sedan producers.

Sail SL, SLX and SLXAT are all equipped with 1.6-litre cylinder, ABS anti-block system and double air bags.

It is reported that Xiali 2000, a model developed by the Tianjin Motor Industrial Corp, will also roll off the production line at the Tianjin plant this week. The car will be equipped with 1.342-litre cylinder, ABS and air bag for the driver. The car is predicted to be priced between 100,000 yuan (US$12,000) and 120,000 (US$14,500).

Experts say the launch of the two new types of sedans will possibly trigger a new round of price war on the domestic car market. It will also pose a challenge to Santana, Jetta, Citroen-Fukang cars and exert pressure on sedans already available on the market priced below 100,000 yuan (US$12,000).
