UAE President Blasts US Hegemony

President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Monday blasted the United States for imposing its will on the international community.

He said peace resolutions should come from the international community as a whole and not from a single country, the official WAM news agency reported.

He made the remark during a meeting with Pakistani Chief Executive General Pervez Musharaf, who was paying a short visit to the Gulf country.

During the talks, the two exchanged views on international and regional issues including the stalled Middle East peace process.

Sheikh Zayed said, "the position of the United States favours Israel and it is the international obligation for a superpower to be fair and stand by the right and justice, and not to side with Israel."

"The best solution for the Palestinian issue will be reached through the participation of Arab and Islamic countries and other influential members in the international community in the peace process," the 82-year-old president suggested.

Musharaf is the first leader from a non-Arab Islamic country to visit the recovering president, who returned last month from the United States after receiving a successful kidney transplant operation in late August.
