Legend Group Establishes Center in ShanghaiThe Legend Group, China's largest computer producer and exporter, is building its third Research and development and manufacturing center in Shanghai.The center covering 80,000 square meters in the Pudong New Area is scheduled for completion in June of 2001, with an annual output of 1.5 million computers. The center will be the group's third computer plant after one in Beijing and another in Huiyang, south China's Guangdong Province. With the operation of the third plant, Legend's total annual computer production will reach six million units. The Shanghai Branch of the Central Research Academy of the Legend will be set up soon to engage primarily in research into and development of the radio technology. Its Notebook Computer Undertaking Department will be moved to Shanghai. "The Legend will probably break into a field of certain large applied software and mobile telecommunications, "said Yang Yuanqing, deputy general manager of the group. Statistics from the International Data Corporation (IDC) shows that the Legend ranks first in terms of Asia-pacific PC sales (with the exception of Japan), with a market share of twelve percent. It has dominated the domestic PC market for four straight years, with a market share of 31 percent. It has joined the rank of the world's top 10 PC manufacturers within a few years. |
