HKPC Works to Enhance Public Awareness on EnvironmentThe two-year long Reducing Air Pollution Program aiming at enhancing public's awareness on the importance of air pollution control in Hong Kong came to an end Monday, December 11.Introduced in 1998 by the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), the program focused on two main sources of air pollution in Hong Kong -- oil mist emission from restaurant and exhaust emission from diesel engine vehicles. Through the development of pollution control technology, the organization of training courses and site visits, HKPC was able to assist industries to minimize air pollution problems resulting from their operations, said C. M. Lin, general manager of Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC), at the closing ceremony Monday. "Under the program, over 200 mechanics from 150 garages attended training courses on vehicle maintenance. In addition, a slogan competition and a road show were organized to promote the program," he said. "The implementation of the Reducing Air Pollution Program and its four sub-programs is one of HKPC's many initiatives to protect the environment," said Lin. "We will continue our efforts in improving the air quality of Hong Kong through cooperation with the government, the industry sector and the business sector with a focus on the provision of cost-effective solutions and new technologies." |
