Electronic Service Delivery Scheme Launched in HK

An electronic service delivery scheme was launched on Internet in Hong Kong last Saturday to provide an innovative way to deliver services to the community in a public-oriented and user-friendly manner, an official said.

The scheme, a key initiative under the government's "digital 21 " information technology strategy, can also be used for providing commercial services, pump-priming the development of electronic commerce in Hong Kong, according to Carrie Yau, secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting.

"The public can now access over 60 types of public services like payment of the government fees, submission of tax return, voter registration, renewal of driving and vehicle licenses, change of personal address through a single portal," Yau said.

"Our objective is to ensure that everyone in the community has the opportunity to obtain public services online through the scheme," the secretary added.
