Entrepreneurship Center to Develop High-tech SectorChinese entrepreneurs and venture capitalists are expected to have access to more systematic knowledge on the high return but risky high-tech market from a research center studying how enterprises are developed. The Tsinghua University-based National Entrepreneurship Research Center, which opened Sunday, vowed to sort out theories and rules for newly started businesses and train professional entrepreneurs to fuel the development of the high-tech industry in China. In recent years, it has become quite popular for high-tech professionals or even college students to start their own businesses in China, especially in major Chinese cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. According to Zhang Jing'an, a senior official with the Ministry of Science and Technology who is in charge of a project to promote the high-tech industry, the 80,000 science-oriented enterprises in China create 1 trillion yuan (US$120.7 billion) of products each year. But Zhang acknowledged that few of these enterprises owned leading technology or made profits internationally. He was echoed by Zhu Yan, deputy director of the Beijing Commission of Science and Technology, who said that the unsatisfactory situation has a lot to do with a lack of study in high-tech enterprises. Investors said they hope the center will provide high quality professional managers to fuel the high-tech industry. Source: China Daily |
