Russia Concerned About Barak's ResignationRussia expressed its concerns over the resignation of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak in a Sunday statement by the Foreign Ministry."The resignation of Ehud Barak is not a way out of the current complicated situation (in the Mideast). Moreover, this move is aggravating the situation which cannot be settled by inner political maneuvering," said the statement. The statement urged Israeli politicians to adhere to the course towards settling the Arab-Israeli conflicts, declared by the Barak government on many occasions. The adherence "would undoubtedly be of great importance for preventing the escalation of the crisis in the Palestinian territories," it said. Russia, as a co-sponsor of the Mideast settlement, is closely following the crisis in Palestinian-Israeli relations and is making strenuous efforts to normalize the situation, it added. Barak offered to resign Saturday and called for an early election of the new Prime Minister. He said he is ready to run for premiership again. |
