Mexico Hopes to Draw More Foreign Investment

The Mexican government hopes to draw some US$20 billion of direct foreign investment annually during its six-year term, media reports said on Saturday, December 9.

The government is currently drawing up programs and mechanisms in order to draw more foreign investment to the country, the reports quoted Economy Secretary Luis Ernesto Derbez as saying.

There has been a remarkable increase in direct foreign investment in the country since the signing of the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in 1994.

The United States, Canada and the European Union are the main foreign investors in Mexico.
