Ericsson Wins US$110 Million China GSM Contract
Swedish telecoms equipment maker Ericsson said last Friday, December 8, it won a contract worth more than US$110 million to expand a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network in eastern China.
Ericsson said in a statement it had signed the contract, its fifth in the province, with Jiangsu Mobile Communications Corporation (JMCC). Ericsson will supply software, hardware and services through its Nanking Ericsson Panda Communications joint venture.
Under the deal Ericsson will also upgrade the network to a dual-band system next year, by which time JMCC's GSM network will reach more than 4.5 million consumers, it said.
"We are very pleased to be an active part of the growth of this exciting industry in Jiangsu," Ericsson China President Jan Malm said in the statement.
