Japanese Main Opposition Party Leader Leaves for China
Yukio Hatoyama, leader of Japan' s largest opposition Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), left Tokyo December 11 for China for a four-day visit.
During the trip, Hatoyama is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, Vice Premier Wen Jiabao and Dai Bingguo, head of the International Liaison Department of the Chinese Communist Party, DPJ officials said.
Hatoyama is also expected to deliver a lecture at Beijing University later Tuesday, the officials said.
The DPJ holds 126 of the 480 seats in Japan's powerful House of Representatives. With the support of three independents, the DPJ forms the largest opposition bloc in the lower chamber.
