China to Host International Computer Fair

Comdex/China 2001, a four-day international computer fair, will be held in Beijing April 4-7 next year.

The Fair will feature all sectors of the information industry (IT), including computers, Internet, e-education, and digital video and audio products.

Besides traditional sales and exhibitions, the fair, sponsored by the Ministry of Information Industry, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the China Council for Promotion and International Trade, will hold seminars and presentations.

Addressing Saturday's news conference on Comdex, Zhang Qi, director in charge of production of electronic and information products under the MII, said that the information industry has been developing rapidly in recent years.

Statistics from the MII show that by the end of September this year, China had more than 200 million telephone users, including 65 million mobile phone users, ranking second in the world.

The Comdex Fair, held every year since 1997, has become one of the most important fairs for IT companies in China.
