HK Trade Turns in Three Trillion HK Dollars

Trade, as Hong Kong's core business, holds the key to an era of higher employment and sustainable wealth creation, a senior official from the Trade Development Council (TDC) said Sunday, December 10.

The total value of Hong Kong's external trade in goods and services will top three trillion HK dollars (US$384 billion) this year, according to Peter Woo, TDC's chairman.

Woo said at a media briefing that sustainability of Hong Kong's external trade was a powerful reminder of its critical importance to the economy, especially to the creation of real jobs, real value and sustainable wealth.

It employs close to half of the workforce and generate nearly half the total earnings, he added.
