Pakistan Concludes Wheat Agreement with AfghanistanPakistan concluded an agreement to export 300,000 tons of wheat to the drought-hit Afghanistan at a bilateral meeting held in Islamabad Friday, December 8.The Pakistani side was headed by Secretary of Commerce Mirza Qamar Beg while Abdul Salam Zaeef, Afghan Taliban's Ambassador in Pakistan, represented the ruling Afghan militia, reported the Associated Press of Pakistan. The Taliban government will start lifting wheat immediately after signing of the formal agreement between the two countries on Tuesday, APP said. During the meeting, the Afghan side requested that it might need more wheat which Pakistan assured to consider favorably. A bumper harvest this year has secured Pakistan surplus wheat of some 1.8 million tons while Afghanistan, struck by the worst drought in 30 years, is in a dire need of wheat and flour. |
