China's Scenic City Preparing to Welcome New Millennium
Guilin, a scenic city in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, will host a grand millennium celebration on December 31 to the early morning of January 1, 2001.
The city has given the celebration the theme "International Hand in Hand to Welcome New Millennium."
On December 31, more than 10,000 foreign tourists and local residents will get together at a major street and take part in a series of gala carnival events to welcome the 21st century, a local official said.
The celebrations includes a collective wedding for 100 domestic and overseas couples, millennium bell-striking, midnight jamboree, art performances and custom show.
