Two Diamond Processing Centers Open in Shanghai

The Shanghai Longhua and the Shanghai Lujiazui diamond processing centers opened Friday, December 8, in the top industrial and commercial center of China.

The Longhua center, located in Xujiahui District, will have a processing capacity of 46,300 carat of diamond by 2005, with sales of up to 2 billion yuan, officials from the center said.

Standing next to the Shanghai Diamond Exchange, the Lujiazui center has a floor space totaling 92,000 sq meters and it will employ 25,000 workers.

Shanghai has sped up its diamond processing business to turn the city into the largest base for diamond trade and processing in the Asia-Pacific region.
