Ten Missing in Coal Mine Flood in Central China
Ten miners are still trapped in a coal mine, which flooded Monday, in the capital of central China's
Henan
Province, with little possibility of surviving.
Local officials said that the small coal mine was shut down last year, but the owner secretly reopened it this year without adopting appropriate safety measures. There were 38 miners working in the mine when it flooded. The owner fled the area immediately after the flood.
Rescue efforts continue, with an investigation into the cause of the accident also underway.
