Theme Set for APEC Finance Meeting

The theme of the 2001 Eighth Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Finance Ministers Meeting, to be held in China next year, will be "Growth with restructuring, stability and equity," according to the 11th APEC Finance Ministers Technical Working Group Meeting that concluded in Beijing Thursday, December 7.

It was the first meeting since the Ministry of Finance of China assumed the chairmanship of the APEC Finance Ministers Meeting. It was also the first meeting China held as Chair of the 2001 APEC Forum.

Nearly 70 representatives from APEC member economies and International financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank, attended the meeting.

The meeting was chaired by Vice Minister of Finance Jin Liqun, who is also the chairman of the 8th APEC Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting to be held in Washington D.C., in the United States, on May 1, 2001.

The meeting discussed recent global and regional economic and financial situation, the strategic objectives of the APEC Finance Ministers process in the medium term and the latest progress in policy initiatives under the APEC Finance Ministers process.

The meeting also covered such issues of common concern as the regional financial cooperation.
