Nanfu Company Strives to Become World's Major Battery Producer

China's first LR6 alkaline-manganese, mercury-free battery production line with intellectual property rights has been installed in the Fujian Nanfu Battery Company, the country's largest battery manufacturer.

As a result, Nanfu has become China's first battery producer and the world's sixth producer capable of turning out alkaline-manganese battery production equipment.

The company has invested 100 million yuan in the sixth phase of its technological upgrading project.

At the same time, china's first imported JR20 and LR 14 alkaline-manganese, mercury-free battery production line went into operation in the company.

During China's 9th Five-year Plan period, Nanfu has invested a total of 350 million yuan in introducing eleven alkaline-manganese and environment-friendly battery production lines from aboard. As a result, its battery production has surged at an average annual rate of more than 40 percent.

Nanfu produced 420 million alkaline-manganese batteries in the first ten month of this year, had a turnover of 440 million yuan and generated 150 million yuan in profits and taxes, all up 40 percent from the same period in 1999.

To date, it has introduced 17 million US dollars in funds from U.S., Netherlands, Singapore.
