Young Teachers Receive Ying Tung Fok Awards

Awards were given to 290 young teachers Thursday by the Henry Ying Tung Fok Education Foundation in Beijing, totaling US$1.61 million.

Henry Ying Tung Fok Education Foundation was set up by Henry Ying Tung Fok and the Commission of Education (now Ministry of Education) in 1986, with 100 million Hong Kong dollars, to encourage more young prominent people to join the university teaching staff, and make contributions to scientific research.

The foundation has helped 1,574 young teachers in Chinese universities and colleges, with US$10.51 million involved. Awards by the foundation also has become one of the most important awards in Chinese education circles.

Ding Shisun, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Wang Zhaoguo and Henry Ying Tung Fok, both vice chairmen of the National Committee of the Chinese People 's Political Consultative Conference, attended the award ceremony. Minister of Education Chen Zhili spoke at the ceremony.
