Xiamen Port Becomes China's Sixth Largest Container Terminal

Xiamen Port in Fujian Province reported Thursday, December 7, it has handled one million containers so far this year, and the volume made it the sixth largest container terminal of the country.

The port is one of the two ports authorized by the central government to open direct shipping with certain ports in Taiwan on a trial basis. Containers handled by the port account for more than 70 percent of the total cargo trade done between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits via the experimental direct shipping service.

The other top five largest container ports in the Chinese mainland are Shanghai, Shenzhen, Qingdao, Tianjin and Guangzhou.
