Coal Mine Gas Explosion Kills Seven People in Qinghai

Seven miners were killed in a gas explosion that occurred on December 1 in the Jintangou Coal Mine in Gangcha County, northwest China's Qinghai Province.

The victims were all farmers from Datong County, Qinghai Province, and in the 27-39 age group.

After the accident occurred, the owner of the mine, Ma Nule, did not report it to higher authorities. Instead he organized rescue operations on his own.

On learning of accident, local government leaders rushed to the scene to organize rescue efforts.

The local government has decided to shut down all coal mines failing to meet standards for safety in operation.
