Chinese Defense Minister Meets Benin Guests

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Thursday, December 7, with Fernand Marcel Amoussou, chief of the armed forces of Benin.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that China and Benin have maintained long-term friendship although the two countries are far apart.

He noted that China and Benin have sympathized and supported each other in dealing with international affairs, and China has attached importance to developing relations with Benin, and it will continue to enhance the cooperation with Benin in various fields.

He expressed his belief that Amoussou's visit will further the friendly relations between the two states and armed forces.

Chi also briefed the guests on China's economic construction and building of its military forces and expressed gratitude for Benin government's adherence on One-China stance and its support on the issues of China's reunification and human rights.

Amoussou said Benin and China have maintained good cooperation, and the high-level exchange of visits are frequent, and he is optimistic about the prospect of Sino-Benin cooperation in all fields. He thanked the Chinese government for its aid to Benin.

Amoussou reaffirmed that Benin will always adhere to One-China stance, and support China to achieve reunification as soon as possible.
