Chinese Leader Stresses Sino-Russian Cooperation on Higher-education

Visiting Chinese vice premier Li Lanqing said at a Russian Universities Conference on Wednesday that China and Russia should strengthen bilateral cooperation on higher-education, so that the two countries may better prepare themselves for the IT era.

Li said China and Russia are two big countries and should thus "continue contributing to world civilization."

"Efforts should be made to tap the great potential for bilateral cooperation in science, education, culture and sports," and annouced, "We pledge to work harder towards bilateral cooperation and exchanges in these areas, especially in higher-education."

At the opening ceremony of the conference, the Moscow State University granted the Chinese vice premier the title of Honorary Professor for his efforts to improve cooperation between Russia and China in science and education.

As a concrete step to broaden their cooperation, China and Russia set up on Tuesday a vice-prime minister-level cooperation committee on education, culture, health and sports.
