Japanese Troop's Bullets Found in Guangdong
Police in Fengkai County, south China's Guangdong Province, have dug out 80 boxes of bullets abandoned by invading Japanese troops during the Anti-Japanese War (1937-1945).
By the afternoon of December 6, local residents had dug out 80 boxes of bullets including five boxes of some 100 anti-tank grenades, and anti-aircraft shots, heavy machine gun bullets and high-explosive shells.
On December 4, people reported to police that they had discovered the wreckage of a sunken ship in the Xijiang River. Also boxes of ammunition were found in the shoals.
An 80-year-old man recalled that a company of Japanese soldiers had been stationed in Jiangchuan Town during the Anti-Japanese War. Toward the end of the war, Japanese soldiers fled in panic, using three ships to transport ammunitions and supplies.
But when reaching the Xijiang River, the ships were intercepted by our Chinese fighters. So Japanese troops eventually had to burn the ships and abandoned them.
The digging and clearing are still going on.
