China to Hold Third Agro-Foodtech Expo

China will hold the third Agro-Foodtech Expo from April 24 to 26 in 2001, according to a press conference held Thursday, December 7, by the China Council for The Promotion of International Trade.

About 350 companies in the industry from 18 countries and regions will attend the exhibition, including some worldwide leading companies. Eight countries will set up national pavilions, such as France, Italy, Germany and China.

The exhibition will attract more companies from North America this year as it promotes North America Day for the first time and the Department of Commerce of the United States has voiced its support for US companies to come, said Baur, delegate general manager of Exposium, the exhibition's co-organizer and a France-based leading trade show organizer.

With China's coming entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), the agriculture sector shall take a more active part in international competition and cooperation by seizing any opportunity to expand the exchange with the rest of the world, said Li Zhengdong, an official with the Ministry of Agriculture.

China will work with 140 countries, regions and major international food and agriculture organizations. By 1999 the country has attracted overseas investment worth of US$18 billion in the agriculture sector.

The second exhibition was held in Beijing last year, with 300 companies from 16 countries and regions present.
