Information Network Company Launched for Textile Industry

China's effort to upgrade its textile industry has got a boost with Wednesday's establishment of a national textile information network company was established Wednesday, December 6 .

The China Textile Network Technology Co., Ltd. was jointly launched by the Information Center under the State Administration of Textile Industry and the Shenzhen-based textile giant Union Developing Group, with a total investment of 50 million yuan (US$6 million), each taking a 52-percent and 48-percent stake, respectively.

"This marks significant progress in transforming the traditional textile industry by utilizing information technologies," industry experts commented.

China's first textile website (www.ctei.gov.cn), owned by the former Information Center, has signed information exchange agreements with a dozen government ministries and administrations to provide the latest information on China's 2000-plus key textile companies.

A new e-commerce website, www.cntextile.com, was launched Thursday as well, which is set to become China's largest textile e-commerce platform to provide commercial services and technological backup to enterprises' development.

The textile sector is one of the government selected pioneers to implement the strategy of transforming traditional industries by utilizing information technology during the country's 10th five-year plan period (2001-2005).
