Four Chinese Professors Win Cameroonian President Medals

A six-member Cameroonian delegation, headed by Minister of Higher Education Jean-Marie, recently awarded the Cameroonian President Medals to four Chinese professors from Zhejiang University on behalf of the Cameroonian president.

The four professors are: Min Hang, Zhao Yuhua, Zhengping, and Wu Weixiang.

Zhejiang University, one of the most prestigious institutes of higher learning in China, has taken a lead in the teaching and research on microbiology.

It has assisted the University of Yaounde I, in Cameroon, to establish its laboratory of microbiology, in order to set and standardize courses on microbiology, and to educate a number of postgraduates.

Meanwhile, the Chinese professors have instructed the Cameroonian students to conduct research in the fields such as alcohol fermentation, diagnosis and control of plant diseases, biological treatment of organic waste, environmental microorganisms, which has not only boosted the scientific and technological development in Cameroon, but also brought about considerable economic results.

In 1989, China signed an agreement with Cameroon that China would help develop Cameroon's higher education through providing funds and technologies. Since then Zhejiang University has sent a dozen experts to work in Cameroon.
