Senior Official in Guangxi Sentenced for BriberyA court in southwest of China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has sentenced Lu Zaiquan, former deputy director of the Regional Supply and Marketing Cooperative, to 20 years' imprisonment for taking bribery.The Yulin City Intermediate People's Court has also decided to deprive Lu of his political right for five years on charges of bribery and embezzlement. Between 1992 to March 1997, Lu served as the magistrate of Beiliu County, secretary of the County Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Beiliu City CPC Committee. During this period, Lu accepted a total of 520,000 yuan and 12,000 Hongkong dollars in bribery by abusing his power. In August 1995, Lu raised 200, 000 yuan from some companies under the pretext of undertaking projects. Later he embezzled all the money. He also could not identify the legal sources of his incomes totaling 5.1 million yuan, 220,000 Hongkong dollars and US$13,000. |
