China Donates Money for Flood Victims in Indonesia

The Chinese Red Cross donated US$20,000 in humanitarian aid on December 6 for victims of floods and landslides in Indonesia.

The donation was passed on to the Indonesian Red Cross by Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Chen Shiqiu here.

Earlier, Chinese President Jiang Zemin sent his condolences to Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid following the calamities which hit many provinces in Indonesia.

About 200 people have died, with many still missing following floods and landslides in four provinces on Sumatra island and other areas in Central Java, West Java, North Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara provinces.

The floods and landslides also caused tens of thousands of people to leave their homes.

Officials said the loss of the worst floods in recent 50 years in some areas of the country could be tens of millions of US dollars.
