Pre-Trial Confab Set Wednesday for Estrada's Impeachment

The legal team of Philippine President Joseph Estrada will hold later Wednesday, December 6, a pre-trial conference in preparation for the impeachment trial.

Estelito Mendoza, Estrada's legal counsel, said they will discuss in the conference possible ways to expedite the impeachment trial.

"We will discuss ways to speed up the trial ..." Mendoza said.

Estrada is scheduled to go on trial before the Senate on Thursday on four charges: bribery, corruption, violating the constitution and betraying the public trust.

Mendoza added they would also discuss matters concerning the pool of witnesses to testify during the start of the trial.

"As much as possible, we don't want surprise witnesses because we need to prepare the background of the witnesses to be able to cross-examine them properly," he said.
