Cisco to Train Net Personnel for Tibet

The world's leading net equipment producer Cisco Systems Inc. from the United States will work in cooperation with Tibet University to train net management personnel for the Tibet Autonomous Region in Southwest China.

The Cisco Networking Academy, a joint venture between the two sides and the first of its kind in Tibet, will go into operation early next year.

Sources with Tibet University said that Cisco has provided 1.2 million yuan worth of equipment and teaching materials for the new academy.

The first group of 40 students at the academy include teachers from Tibet University and students majoring in computer science.

The California-based Cisco company, set up in 1984, mainly produces routers for computers and other networking equipment and software.

Cisco has also signed agreements with China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Sichuan and Yunnan provinces for training of net management personnel.

At present, the company has opened more than 4,000 net technology academies around the world.
