Shanghai to Spend over 87 Billion Yuan in Infrastructure

More than 87 billion yuan will be spent in five years to improve the infrastructure facilities in Shanghai City, the top industrial and commercial center of China.

A government official of Shanghai said the funds will be mainly invested in expressways, roads in urban areas, cross-river bridges and tunnels.

He said that Shanghai will build six expressways linking neighboring provinces, totaling 650 kilometers and costing 40 billion yuan.

To further promote the development of the Pudong District, Shanghai will build another bridge and three more tunnels across the Huangpu River, so that there will be six bridges and six tunnels across the river.
