Chinese Vice Premier Ends Hong Kong VisitChinese Vice Premier Wu Bangguo concluded his four-day visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and left Hong Kong for Beijing December 5.During his stay, Wu opened the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecom Asia 2000 and met with senior officials of the HKSAR led by Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa as well as staff of Chinese government institutions and enterprises in Hong Kong. He reaffirmed the firm support of China's Central Government to the HKSAR government and the confidence in Hong Kong 's future. Wu urged the Chinese government institutions in Hong Kong to support the HKSAR government and take the promotion of Hong Kong's prosperity and stability as their duty. He hoped the mainland enterprises in Hong Kong will enhance their competence and the risk-defense ability. Wu also met figures of the Hong Kong business circle and hoped that they will seize the opportunities brought about by China's imminent entry into the World Trade Organization and the strategy of developing the west of China to play a special role in promoting the mutual prosperity of both Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
