CA Establishes New Joint-venture in China

Computer Associates International Inc. (CA), of the United States, and the Computer Software and Technology Service Corporation (CSS), of China, reached an agreement in Beijing December 5 on the establishment of a new joint-venture.

The new company will deal with development and distribution of management software for enterprises, focusing on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM). The company is the first of its kind to be established in China.

Charles Wang, CA board chairman, said at the signing ceremony that with the economic globalization and China's imminent entrance into WTO, most Chinese companies are keen to modernize and computerize their management by means of advanced information technology, and therefore, the market potential of management software for enterprises is great.

Management software for enterprises like ERP and CRM consists of integrated information systems used to plan, schedule and control the presale and postsale activities in a business.

Shi Jinquan, vice president of China Electronics Corp., said that China now has about 15,000 large enterprises and more than 10 million small and medium-sized enterprises, and 50-70 percent of them are likely to complete modernized management by the year 2003.

As a world leader in providing commercial software, CA has set up branches and offices in about 100 countries and areas. Its total revenue hit US$6.3 billion last year. CSS is the largest software producer in China.
