Inter-Korean Emergency System to Be Established

Seoul and Pyongyang agreed on December 5 to establish an emergency system in case of military or medical contingencies in the Demilitarized Zone during the reconstruction of the project of the inter-Korean railway and highway.

The agreement was reached at the second round of the working-level inter-Korean military meeting held at the South Korea-controlled Peace House in the truce village of Panmunjom Tuesday.

At the meeting, two sides also agreed to create a joint management area for the project in the zone based on connection points and width of the inter-Korean railway and highway.

Under the agreement, the two sides will begin the construction work on both the railway and highway next March.

In addition, they agreed to hold their third round of talks at the Tongilgak Pavilion on the northern side at the truce village on December 21.
