Chinese Company Invents Substitute for Sulfuric Acid Battery

A Chinese company has invented a substitute for the sulfuric acid rechargeable battery, which has been used for over 100 years and become a source of pollution.

The Guangdong Jiangmen Yuyang Special Battery Plant has invented a compound silicate gel to function as electrolyte instead of sulfur acid.

This new material will avoid generation of erosive acid gas in the production and waste treatment process.

The new battery product has passed an appraisal by the State Rechargeable Battery Testing Center (SRBTC) and the China Light Industry Bureau. It is now in trial use in dozens of companies and units.

The silicate battery is regarded by Yu Tongshuang, director of SRBTC, as the first battery of its kind.

Sources with the institute said that there are over 3,000 sulfuric acid battery plants around the country, which mainly adopt expensive special equipment to assimilate acid vapor in the workshop for pollution reduction.
