IT Industry to Be Pushed Forward as an Overall Project in Tianjin

Tianjin is to push fully ahead its information project during the 10th "Five-Year Plan" period. Efforts will be devoted to developing the IT industry in order to help boost the industrialization and modernization in other trades, according to sources close to the First Symposium for Construction of National Information Port which is now underway in Tianjin.

As reported, the whole project is to be carried out in three phases: First, it is to build a wideband backbone network and a broadband access network and in the meanwhile to make best use of resources in the airspace, on earth and underground. Second, it is to set up two top-level service platforms for information exchange and e-business and third, to fulfill 21 information application systems in all walks of life, such as political affairs, social insurance, medical service and healthcare, education and cultural undertakings and the construction of intellectualized social communities.

Tianjin has outlined a blueprint for developing its IT Industry Districts. While reconstructing and improving its traditional crafts in IT industries, great efforts will be made to develop high-tech ones, such as network, communications and electronic appliances for household use. In addition, software, system integration industry and high-tech software parks will be put high on the agenda for development so as to raise its present output value of RMB 140 million to RMB two billion. To develop information service, we mean to develop the traditional communications and the new prevailing network industry of ISP, ICP, ASP and ESP, etc.

Apart from the aforesaid, five such databanks for information service are to be set up as to include political information, personal consultation, enterprise consultancy, products and public services in the service of business enterprises, organizations and the city inhabitants.
