Pakistan Favors Arms Embargo Against All Parties in Afghanistan

Pakistan is in favor of an arms embargo against all parties in war-ravaged Afghanistan and this should be monitored by the United Nations, according to the Associated press of Pakistan (APP).

"We favor that there should be an arms embargo on all parties in Afghanistan. We are in favor of monitoring the arms embargo by the UN," APP quoted Foreign Office Spokesman Riaz Mohammad Khan as saying here on Monday, December 4.

Pakistan, he said, is against sanctions on Afghanistan as the step would create more hardships for the Afghan people. That has been Islamabad's consistent policy, he added.

"We advocate engagement by the international community for the economic development and reconstruction of Afghanistan. This can help as an incentive and catalyst for peace and normalcy," he said.
