S.Korean Stock Shares Down to 22-month LowThe shares at the Seoul stock market has plunged to a 22-month low Monday due to foreign investors' continued selling spree.The Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) fell 12.73 points, or 2.47 percent, to 501.73, the lowest level since February 25, 1999 when it fell to 499.14. Trade volume came to 267.61 million shares valued at 1.37 trillion won (some US$1.2 billion), with losers overwhelming gainers at 569 to 251. The KOSPI's fall also pushed the over-the-counter KOSDAQ market down to a new record low, with its key index dropping 1.43 points, or 2.11 percent to 66.38. A total of 327.32 million shares was changing hands on a turnover of 1.32 trillion won (about US$1.156 billion), with decliners outnumbering advancers at 319 to 242. |
