Production for 2.5-G Mobile Phone Got under Way

An agreement was signed by Eastern Communication Co. Ltd., China Integrated Circuit Design Center and Motorola in Beijing on December 1, for co-developing the 2.5-G GSM mobile phone. This signals that the production of the 2.5-G mobile phones was formally put underway.

The 2.5-G mobile phone, with a GPRS function, has been greatly enhanced in its function for data transmission as compared to the 2-G GSM mobile phone. Its transmission rate will be raised to 100k per second from 10k of a WAP mobile phone, which has greatly exceeded the wired online accessing speed.
