Iran Willing to Expand Ties with Liberia: Khatami

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said Sunday, December 3, that his country is ready to expand relations with Liberia in all fields, particularly technical and engineering services.

Iran is pursuing a foreign policy of detente, which requires it to expand cooperation with all countries, including Liberia and other African states, Khatami told visiting Liberian Foreign Minister Murhi Captain, the Islamic Republic News Agency reported.

Khatami stressed that relations between the two countries must be based on mutual respect and any domineering attitude should be rejected.

In the meeting, Captain said his country is willing to use Iran's experience to attain self-sufficiency. "Bright prospects are ahead for Tehran-Monrovia ties, which should be attended to," he noted.

Earlier in the day, Captain also met with his Iranian counterpart Kamal Kharrazi. He called for Tehran-Monrovia cooperation in the fields of oil, trade, economy and industry, the report said.

Captain expressed the hope that bilateral commercial cooperation would further expand in light of presence of Iranian traders in Liberia.

According to the official, Iranian economic and trade enterprises will participate in a trade fair in Liberia this week, which would be effective in consolidating mutual cooperation.
